College History

Guru Tegh Bahadur College, Bhawanigarh is recognized by UGC Act 1956 under Section 2 (f) and 12 (B) and is a Government Aided College affiliated to Punjabi University Patiala. Guru Tegh Bahadur College is located in sub-division Bhawanigarh of Sangrur district and has its own unique identity as a reputed institution. From the year 1978 to 1991, the classes of this college continued in the building of Gurdwara Nauvini Patshahhi Bhawanigarh, but in 1991, it was shifted to a new building due to the financial assistance given by Sardar Mehma Singh Grewal, a NRI from the nearby village Skarodi. Presently the college is located on National Highway 7 and it is 700 meters walking distance from the local bus stand. Since the year 1991 till present, the college has been imparting quality higher education in the same building to fulfill the dreams of the students of the area. and has given the students courage to face the tough experiences of life.

 

The college has taken special initiatives to enable its students to face the challenges and experiences of globalization in the era of technical education. The college emphasizes on introduction of employment and vocation-oriented courses, providing state-of-the-art technical facilities, preparing students for competitive exams, emphasizing on skill development etc. College provides technical education through courses like BCA, PGDCA, B. Com as well as has started vocation oriented courses like B.Voc (Retail management and IT and Software Development).

 

Keeping in mind the all-round development of the students, the cultural activities, NSS, youth services, sports and high standard infrastructure facilities are provided. The college occupies over 3 acres of land in which the main administrative block consists of Principal Room, admission cell, administrative (Clerical) office, staff room, common room for girl students, Physical Education Room, two Computer Laboratories and the College Library located in Block Two are the main points of attraction for students. All the rooms are well-furnished and ventilated. The entire campus and classrooms are under CCTV surveillance. All basic facilities like drinking water and washrooms are available.

 

Apart from this, the college has five-acre stadium under the Municipal committee Bhawanigarh nearby which has yoga hall cum indoor stadium, cricket pitch, basketball ground and standard track of 400 meters. The college offers 25% fee waiver to those students who do not have fathers as well as 10% fee waiver to financially needy students. Apart from this scholarship is also given by Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust and Satya Bharati Foundation to the meritorious students.
